A New Adventure

In the church we are fortunate to change callings periodically and learn a new set of skills, unfortunately it usually comes just as we are getting comfortable with our current position. I must have been getting too comfortable and confident in my calling because The Lord decided to shake things up a little. I received a phone call on Saturday morning from the Stake Presidents office requesting an interview for later that evening before the adult session of stake conference. I anxiously navigated through the tasks of the day and with great uncertainty arrived at the appointed time at the Stake Presidents office with Brad in tow. After the usual pleasantries and small talk which included an offering of chocolate (this must be how he softens the blow) the President asked if I would serve in the Stake Primary Presidency. It has been six years since I was a counselor in primary so I am very nervous. My usual calling is in the Young Women's organization so I was a little surprised, but pleased. I am actually excited about this new opportunity. Today being stake conference I was sustained and set apart after the meeting, followed by my first presidency meeting this afternoon. I really like the group of women I will be working with, the one con will be visiting the many wards and branches in our stake, some of which are over two hours away. Brad will be a single father at church (and most of the day) some weeks. This is my first stake calling and it will be a new experience to not have the daily hands on work in the ward 's auxiliaries, but more of an over all training and coaching role with a few stake primary activities thrown into the mix. I get to learn what goes into a 11 year old scout day camp and carry through with the planning on the stake level. I think the stake activity day girls activity will be simpler and more familiar for me to plan. Training??? That will be interesting! I'm sure many of these women we will be visiting have more experience than I, but I can count on learning many new skills and processes. Thankfully the Church has a great deal of information and books to help along this road. This is one time I am saying "Yeah for the handbook!" Anyway, I am excited for this new opportunity---pray for me!

You'll do great! Working with you in YW was a breeze and I'm sure you'll fit right in in this calling as well. Good luck and don't forget about the wonderful tool of the internet to find help with anything and everything!

Good for you. It will be a lot of work, but you will be so good. You will have to let us know how it goes, and share all of your fun ideas!
