Getting in Camille's head

Over the past week two funny conversations with Camille keep replaying in my mind. The first one is probably mean as a mother, but funny anyway. Camille has become sneaky- usually trying to take food out of the kitchen to the basement or her room. After consistently catching her around the corner she asked me how I always know when she was doing something she wasn't suppose to do. I responded that as a mother I had eyes in the back of my head and knew what she was doing. She pondered this for a minute asked if she would have eyes in the back of her head, which I responded she probably would when she became a mother and she moved on her way to play. I didn't think much more of this until a few days later I overheard her talking to Katie and during the course of their conversation Camille asked Katie if she had eyes in the back of her head! Katie laughed and gave some noncommittal answer. I laugh now knowing that Camille has taken me seriously and thinks I really have eyes in the back of my head. I will play this out for as long as I can. She hasn't tried to be as sneaky and is asking permission more often.

To understand the second conversation worth repeating you must remember back to last Christmas in our apartment. We couldn't find any of our decorations that were buried in the back of one of three storage units and even if I could get to them we were very crowded in the apartment. Seriously wall to wall furniture so we decided not to worry about buying a tree since we didn't have decoration or a place to put it. In the place of a beautiful fur tree I have a potted fake tree that we wrapped a string of white lights around and placed our presents around the bottom. Now fast forward to this week, Camille and I were in the living room dusting and she asked to turn the lights on our Christmas tree. (yes I still have the white lights on it). I responded that I could plug the lights in, but that wasn't our real Christmas tree. I asked her if she remembered our big tree with lots of colorful lights and decorations that we had in our old house before we moved. She can't remember it! In her mind that little fake non-fur tree is our Christmas tree. I think she will be pleasantly surprised when we bring up our actual tree with all the lights and decorations.
