A Fun Week

This past week was busy, but sooo much fun. It seemed strange not being on the computer much. I am surprised how much I rely on it for so many tasks. I was very behind in my email (sorry all of you waiting on a response). Last Wednesday my mom came out to visit and see the family. We found some amazing deals at Ann Taylor Loft, it is so fun to shop and feel like I got a lot for very little money. And staying in the clothes mode, grandma helped Katie and Sara clean out there closets, and pack away the too little items and toss the damaged. (It is a good thing Sara gets the clothes after Katie, because she manages to spill, rip and in some way spot/ruin many items). Grandma also had to have her Montgomery Inn rib meal and Black Raspberry Chip ice cream, as well as a few other fun lunches. We had a movie/picnic night in front of the TV with pizza and popcorn, watched Sara's acting lesson, and looked at pictures of the far away cousins and extended family. The kids were sad to see her leave on Monday. Camille has missed her and is now talking about this coming summer when we get to see Grandma again.

The other BIG event of the weekend---The Steelers winning the AFC Championship game. Brad is sure it's because he wore his black pants, yellow shirt, and steel tie (gray) to church. Whatever! He is so funny. But for the Mosteller's it isn't about just watching the game, Brad is on the phone most of the night, before, during, and after taking about the game, plays, strategies, and of course the other team. Brad, his dad, and 3 other brothers really should just organize a conference call for the evening instead of all this calling back and forth. They are a bunch of "couch coaches". We are already planning our Superbowl evening!

Unfortunately Katie seems to have inherited my procrastination gene, she has know about an invention timeline project for school for a few weeks, but didn't actually work on it until Monday. In her defense her teacher, I feel didn't help facilitate picking out an invention very well. I would have liked her to make a list and let the students sign up for an invention from that list. (The students were suppose to create a timeline about something that was invented in the late 1800's, and then write 3-4 ways EACH decade in the 1900's that it has change/improved). But the teacher told the students to pick something and then get her approval. Katie was going to do Levi's and was talking about that for about a week, until her teacher told her it didn't change enough scientifically. By this time most obvious inventions had been taken and each idea Katie presented to her teacher was turned down. Last week her teacher got mad at her for not having an invention yet and told her to do paper. Paper? How has that changed 3-4 times each decade over the last 100 years? Sunday and Monday morning we searched the Internet for everything we could find on paper in the 1900's. Didn't find much. So mid-afternoon on Monday (this was due Tuesday) I started looking into other inventions. We came across air-conditioning and Katie doesn't remember anyone writing about it. So she made her timeline on air-conditioning and we are both hoping that her teacher doesn't get upset for the change or that another student also did air-conditioning. I think there was more Katie could have done before hand to save us all that time on Monday, but on top of this invention project she also had a book report/project and a math worksheet of long division. (watching her do those problems makes me so thankful for my calculator). I tried not to lecture her too much on the evils of procrastination and leaving two big projects and math until the day before they are due because she was up until 3 am getting it all done. I think she punished herself better than any long lecture I could give. I am so glad to be out of school.

This week I am now trying to get caught up on house cleaning, laundry, email, church calling, and other projects that get pushed aside for the fun and vacation that family provides when the visit.
